July 4th Shoot Out

Postby rad55 » Sun Jul 08, 2012 4:14 pm

Thanks to all that came out for the HOT HOT July Shoot Out. In spite of the heat, we still had a pretty good car count in Pro Mod (9 paid entries).... however we had SEVERAL faithful racers kind enough to call and let us know that it was just too hot to race that weekend and they were nice enough to let us know they'd be at the lake instead (I want to go! :) )

We are meeting now to figure out if we should possibly put a "heat index" on whether we race for any given weekend or not. Right now we have a rule that says the weather must be above 45 degree's to race, but nothing for the other end of that scenerio! Tulsa and St Louis appear to have made the right calls (they canceled their races) so we're going to ponder what would be the right thing in the future.

Not only is it tough to get racers and spectators to show up when it's over 100 degree's, but the track temp was right at 150 degree's and you just can't get anything to stick when it's that hot (watching NHRA qualifying Sat at Ohio is what promted me to write this thread... they couldn't get 90% of those guys down the track either.... and it wasn't fun to watch).

Thanks again to all those that came out!

Pool and wet bar? Not a good idea. Two words. Mitch, speedo.

There would need to be some lead time on it. We spend a lot of money driving down and taking off days form work just to get there and have it cancelled.

I know, I dont have a problem with their being a heat limit. I was just saying that if there is, it is a call that needs to be made a few days in advance.

It would be a call made on Monday or Tuesday before the race, not the day of! AL

I'd say anything above 90 for a high move start times back a couple 2-3 hours it helps a little once the sun is not beating down on the track and fans. Racers need to do their part and be ready to run when called so it doesn't go extremely late. Reality is most the fans don't care too much about elims past the first rd or 2 they just want to see as many cars as possible non stop.

I think if it 100 degrees or more the race should be canceled or rescheduled for a later date when it is a little cooler. I know I am to much of a candy ass to be out at the track in that kind of heat. I will be sitting at home in the AC with a cold one.:)

Just move the run times to early evening i would rather race until 2 am then bake in the heat and be done at 11

btw great job Marty and the whole crew the track was great even tho the track temp was 149 !!!!
