when do you need to step up to 7/16 rocker studs over the 3/8? thx...novice
Most flat tappet setups and hyd. roller that are run under 6500 rpm can use the good (ARP) 3/8" studs with no problems. Solid roller setups with 450lb and up open spring pressures or 6500+ rpm will have more safety margin with a 7/16" stud. I have run some milder solid roller setups with 3/8" and stud girdles and survived. Flex is what eventually breaks the stud, and the damage can range from replacing a stud and pushrod all the way up to destroying a camshaft, or a block, or a complete engine.
