First let me state that there are tons of literature on this all over the net. But nowhere can I find some basic limiting factors on running E85 on a high compression motor.

I have a 15:1 434 SBC AFR 227 Aluminum heads etc. Has anyone had actual first hand experience with running E85 with 14:1 15:1 motors? I'm thinking really hard of swtiching over to E85 instead of Methanol or race gas. Especially since this is a "street" car and will see limited street use to car shows, cruises etc.

For those that have or are running E85, what kind of compression you running? And to be safe, would I be better off mixing my own blend of E85? Really Really like the idea of spending well under 1/2 the price of race gas.

And as a side question, who around the area is converting carbs for E85 and would do a good job?

Mark

That thar are spelling the Ozarkian way. Thanks Bob for the remarks. At least I did go back and change to CARBS instead of CRABS.

I'm working on a street rod project for a guy he wants to build a N/A EFI motor and doing the research E-85 can be E-70 to E-95 depending on how they blend it. With the EFI we can control the difference with a special O-2 sensor but on a carb set up it could be a crap shoot on a hi compression tune up.

as BOB said, Ill do your carb....

as for compression, never seen it but heard of an EX _Pro stock motor running 16:1 ....personally I have 13.7:1 with absolutely NO sign of detonation. and have donne some 14.7:1 BBMs.

I think your 15:1 shouldnt be an issue as long as the carb is big enough to feed it....

on the 434 I suggest a 850hp or maybe a 1000hp....

check out my page below and call me with any questions.

You should look into running E98 on that setup in my opinion. I personally run 9:1 in my boosted street driven 4 banger on the pump E85/E70 with no problems.

The motor has 13.7:1 pistons but the afr 227s heads have been milled to 50cc. These are some awesome heads so I would hate to change them out just to lower the compression.

I just do a little street driving and would be nice to run a pump gas for the cruises and car shows. How much is Methanol running now days? Been a few years since I bought any.
